How to Find Your Niche: A Brand Positioning Guide

"Just find your niche," they say, as if it's lying around somewhere waiting to be picked up. In practice, choosing a niche feels less like finding and more like letting go, of all the other things you could be, in favour of the one you should be. That's why it's hard. And that's also why it works.

Why narrowing feels scary (and helps anyway)

Most people resist niching because it feels like turning customers away. But a brand that tries to be for everyone gives people nothing specific to remember. A clear niche does the opposite: it tells exactly the right person, this is for you. You don't lose the market. You become findable inside it.

How to find your niche

  1. Start with what you can't not do, the work you'd still care about with no audience watching. Instinct is data.

  2. Find where your obsession meets a real need, the overlap between what you love doing and what people actually struggle with and pay to solve.

  3. Name the specific person, not a demographic, a real human with a real problem you're unusually good at solving.

  4. Say it out loud and watch reactions; the right niche makes the right people lean in, and the wrong ones drift away. Both are useful.

  5. Let it narrow over time; your niche sharpens through doing the work, not through one perfect decision. Start, then refine.

What would your brand stand for if you stopped trying to appeal to everyone?

A niche is a point of view, not a box

Done well, your niche isn't a cage; it's a stance. It's the reason someone chooses you over the ten brands that look almost the same. Helping people find and own that stance is the heart of what we do at NICHE+, the clue is in the name.

If you're somewhere between "I do a bit of everything" and "I want to be known for one thing," start with the Find Your Niche tool, then let's talk about where it leads: contact@nicheplus.nl.
